KiteDart Jigsaw - not your usual jigsaw puzzle.
KiteDart Jigsaw was developed together with Craig Kaplan, who is famous for his contributions to the "Einstein" aperiodic monotiling. The puzzle is based on the aperiodic kites-and-darts Penrose tiling. Craig showed how a single kite or dart can be transformed to a jigsaw piece made of multiple smaller kites and darts. The two types of pieces are based on the kite and the dart piece respectively. The jigsaw pieces enforce the Penrose rules to assure aperiodicity. The goal it to make the 40 pieces (25+15) fit into the two-part frame. The puzzle may look difficult to solve. However, once one understands the relationship with the kite-dart pattern in the frame, it becomes much easier. The frame is held together by twenty 2-mm-thick, 3-mm-diameter cylinder magnets.
