Propp Lozenge
Propp Lozenge is a fascinating magnetic tile puzzle invented by James (Jim) Propp and designed by Oskar van Deventer.
The puzzle consists of 27 diamond-shaped tiles arranged inside a hexagonal frame. Their colors and orientation create the illusion of a three-dimensional cube, even though the entire puzzle is completely flat.
Each tile contains a small embedded magnet. Using the included magnetic tool, you can lift a hexagonal group of three tiles, rotate it by a multiple of 60°, and place it back into the frame. These rotations gradually transform the pattern and allow you to scramble the puzzle.
With 180° rotations, you can create many well-known lozenge patterns that resemble cubes with sections missing. Or, for a more chaotic challenge, remove all the tiles and place them back randomly with different orientations and colors.
The goal is simple: restore the original cube pattern.
Unlike many permutation puzzles, a completely random arrangement of Propp Lozenge is always solvable, so however badly you scramble it, there is a way back.
